Game Overview: Not Your Grandma’s Party Game

You’ll need 8 to 30 people because let’s face it, the more, the merrier. And who doesn’t love unwrapping stuff?
It’s like Christmas, but with less disappointment and more plastic.
You’ll roll dice, pray for doubles, and hope to snag some sweet prizes. It’s like a piñata, minus the risk of concussion.

Required Supplies: Your Shopping List of Chaos
Ready to dive into this plastic-wrapped madness? You’re gonna need a shopping list longer than your attention span:
- 375 feet of plastic wrap (enough to mummify your entire family!)
- An assortment of prizes (candy, gift cards, toys – go wild!)
- Two dice (without ’em, you’re just weirdos unwrapping plastic)
- Oven mitts (optional, but highly recommended for extra laughs)
- A plate or cookie sheet for rolling dice (nobody wants to chase them around like Indiana Jones)
Oh, and slap a bow on that plastic monstrosity.
It’ll almost make up for the fact that you’re about to torture your friends and family with layers of frustration.
Almost. I never get sick of the reactions to this monstrous creation.
Prankster’s Paradise: Between some layers, include not only prizes but also ‘booby traps’. A splash of harmless confetti, a burst of string spray, or a ballooning whoopee cushion can add a burst of laughter (or shock!) to the game. Just remember, it’s all in good fun—until Grandma pulls out the ultimate prank!

Creating the Gift Ball: Become a Plastic Wrap Wizard

Now that you’ve got your supplies, it’s time to create the gift ball itself. Ready to become the master of plastic wrap wizardry? Let’s get started!
- Choose a round object or prize as your base
- Wrap it up like it’s the last burrito on Earth (3-4 layers)
- Start layering small prizes, alternating wrapping direction
- Aim for about 375 feet of wrap for 10 players (adjust as needed)
- Choose prizes that won’t send anyone to the ER (safety first, folks!)
- Finish it up with a bow (cuz presentation matters!)
They’re a hit at parties, and your friends will love-hate you for it.
It’s like putting lipstick on a pig, but hey, sometimes pigs need to feel pretty too. Honestly, I find creating these balls surprisingly zen.
Soundtrack Showdown: Why not crank up the intensity with a designated game soundtrack? Think “Eye of the Tiger” for unwrapping sprints. Each player gets to pick their theme song for their turn. The sillier and more dramatic, the better. Because nothing says ‘game on’ like unwrapping to the beats of your own victory anthem.

Gameplay Instructions: Let the Chaos Begin!

- Get everyone to sit in a circle on the floor. Yep, the floor is typically the best spot. You can go with sitting at a table or a couch
- One person starts with the Saran wrap ball, and the person to their left gets the pan with the dice.
- When you say “Go!”, the action starts:
- The person with the ball puts on the oven mitts and tries to unwrap it as fast as they can.
- At the same time, the person with the dice is trying to roll doubles.
- As soon as someone rolls doubles, it’s their turn to unwrap! Pass the ball to them, and the dice move to the next person on the left.
- Whatever falls out of the ball during your turn is yours to keep. Finders keepers!
- Keep going until the last prize falls out – that’s when the game ends.

Variations and Customization: Make It Your Own

Customizing the Saran Wrap Ball game opens up a world of possibilities for unique and engaging experiences.
Want to spice things up? Try these awesome variations:
- Use themed prizes (Christmas in July, anyone?)
- Trading post: At the end of the game, let people swap prizes if they want to.
- Keep the Saran Wrap Ball in your lap: If the ball rolls away, you have to put it back before unwrapping more. (Brutal!)
- Double trouble: Wrap a smaller ball inside the big one for extra chaos!
- UNO-inspired: Add little paper slips with instructions like “Steal”, “Reverse”, or “Skip” into the wrap. Adding a little “white elephant” twist doesn’t hurt for a little extra excitment.
- For mixed age groups: Have older players use oven mitts, and younger ones use regular mittens.
- Incorporate Wrap Trap challenge cards (unwrapping with your eyes closed? Bring it on!)
- Adjust rules for different age groups (nobody wants to see Grandma hopping on one foot) For a kid-friendly version, you can include 2 to 3 prizes for each player. Once you’ve got your share, you’re out.
Get creative and make it your own! I’m constantly impressed by the creativity people bring to customizing this game.
And of course, feel free to tweak the rules to suit your group.
Prize Ideas: From Meh to Marvelous

Besides having the rules in place (and makeing sure everyone understands them), the success of your Saran Wrap Ball Game hinges on the prizes you choose.
You want to wow your players, right?
Let’s explore the world of prize perfection!
| Age Group | Prize Ideas |
|---|---|
| Kids | Bouncy balls, stickers, temporary tattoos, $5 gift cards |
| Adults | Mini bottles of car cleaner, packs of mints, fuzzy socks, coffee gift cards |
| Everyone | “Get Out of Dish Duty Free” cards, mini bottles of booze (21+ only!) |
Just don’t mix up the kids’ prizes with the adult ones, or you’ll have a whole different kind of party on your hands!
For me, finding the perfect prize mix is pure joy.
Tips and Considerations: Don’t Be That Guy

To pull off a successful Saran Wrap Ball game, keep these tips in mind:
- Don’t wrap up cash (torn money is no fun)
- Use age-appropriate and safe prizes (no choking hazards, please)
- Get a built-in easy slide cutter (it’s like having your own gift-wrapping elf)
- Throw in challenge cards between layers (nothing says “fun” like making your friends do the chicken dance mid-game)
- Recycle cards and themes from previous games (it’s eco-friendly and laziness-approved!)
Just don’t blame me when your living room looks like a plastic wrap factory exploded. That’s on you, my friend. That’s on you.
I’ve learned that the cleanup aftermath can be quite the adventure. Seek help!
Your Turn! (Let’s Get a Little Social)
If you could create a themed Saran Wrap ball game, what theme would you choose and what prizes would you include?
Christmas in July? Zombie apocalypse survival kit? I’m ready to be inspired by your thematic genius!

My family plays this and its mostly teenage boys. I buy lots of “gag” gifts, such as freckle pens, under eye masks, etc, which always makes for an Aunt Jen, what the heck comment!! I remind them the prizes can’t all be winners!!! It makes for lots of laughs. Also look for clearance items after each holiday and throw it in a tote. No need to pay full price. you can find tons of cute small prize ideas at Dollar tree, or stores like that. I make them all wear gloves with fingers (a pair for each so they don’t have to waste time swapping them out) This makes it a little more difficult to unwrap and makes the game last a bit longer. I cut the wrap every so often and start a new piece which also makes it harder to unwrap. Try it out, have fun and be prepared to be the saran wrap ball bringer for years to come.
Ohhhhh, that’s hilarious! I LOVE it!
