Chase the Ace: A Card Game to Make Family Game Night Legendary

Are you tired of the same old Monopoly marathons that end in table-flipping tantrums? I get it.

Let me introduce you to the adrenaline-pumping, friendship-testing, laugh-inducing card game madness that is Chase the Ace!

Let me set the stage: It’s Friday night. The pizza’s ordered, the kids are hyped on sugar, and Grandma’s got her game face on.

You need a game that’ll keep everyone from toddlers to great-grandparents on the edge of their seats. Enter Chase the Ace – the card game that’s about to become your family’s new obsession.

How to Play Chase the Ace (the Lowdown!)

Remember, Aces are low in Chase the Ace.

Chase the Ace Game Objective

The goal of Chase the Ace is simple: don’t get caught holding the short end of the stick – or in this case, the lowest card.

Each round, you’re desperately trying to avoid having the lowest card when the music stops (metaphorically speaking, of course – unless you want to add a soundtrack to your game night, in which case, rock on!).

If you’re the unlucky soul with the lowest card, say goodbye to one of your precious life tokens. Lose all your tokens, and it’s sayonara, friend – you’re out faster than Dad reaching for the last slice of pizza.

Materials Needed

Before we dive into the nitty-gritty, let’s make sure you’ve got all the goods. Here’s your Chase the Ace shopping list:

  • A standard 52-card deck (Leave those Jokers in the box, wiseguy. They’re on a break for this game.)
  • 3 tokens per player that represent your “lives” in the game (Poker chips work great, but don’t be afraid to get creative. Bottle caps, buttons, or those stale Cheerios you found under the couch – anything goes!)
  • 5 or more players (5 is the sweet spot, but you can play this game with at least 8 people comfortably)
  • table (Or any flat surface that can handle the heat of intense card-swapping action.)
  • Nerves of steel (Not included in the box, sorry. You’ll have to bring your own.)

Let’s get this party started right:

  1. Gather your victims – I mean, players – around the table. Make sure everyone’s comfy; they’ll need all their energy for the madness ahead.
  2. Dole out 3 tokens to each player. These are your lifelines, folks. Guard them like you guard the TV remote during sports season.
  3. Shuffle that deck like your life depends on it. Because in Chase the Ace, it kinda does.
  4. Time to choose our first dealer! Have each player draw a card – highest card gets the honor. But watch out! Aces are low in this game, so don’t get cocky if you pull one.
  5. Our chosen one (aka the dealer) shuffles again and deals one card to each player. No peeking, you sneaky Pete! The rest of the deck gets placed in the middle of the table.

How to Play Chase the Ace

An-infographic-displaying-the-five-main-rules-of-the-chase-the-ace-card-game,-with-playing-cards-and-tokens-illustrated.
  1. The Great Card Swap Begins: Starting with the player to the dealer’s left, each person decides whether to keep their card or pass it like it’s a hot potato covered in ghost peppers.
  2. To Keep or Not to Keep: If you’re feeling lucky (punk), say “stand” and keep your card. Want to swap? Say “change” and slide that card face-down to the player on your left faster than you can say “not it!” The player to your left doesn’t have a choice; they have to switch if you ask for a switch.
  3. The Royal Treatment: Kings are like a force field in this game. If you’ve got one and someone tries to swap with you, you flip it over and say “Nuh-uh!” It’s the only time you’re allowed to be smug in this game.
  4. Dealer’s Wild Card (a.k.a. Who does the dealer trade with?): When the swapping frenzy gets back to the dealer, they can swap their card with the top card of the deck – if they want. Or keep the card that they already have.
    • Plot Twist: If a dealer decides to swap a card from the middle deck of cards and ends up with a King, the dealer has to keep the original card. No one’s allowed to make a deck swap for a King. (So sorry, Charlie!)
  5. Moment of Truth: After all the swapping shenanigans, everyone reveals their cards like they’re on a cheesy game show. Lowest card loses a token. No tokens left? You’re out, buddy. Better luck next time!
  6. Wash, Rinse, Repeat: Gather the cards, pass the dealer duties to the left, and start the madness all over again. Keep going until there’s only one player left with tokens – they’re your Chase the Ace champion.

Winning Chase the Ace

You keep playing until there’s only one player left with tokens (hopefully you!). Whoevers left with tokens when everyone else has run out, wins the game.

Tip

Channel your inner poker face. Even if you’re dealt a 2 and your dreams are crashing down around you, keep that face as unreadable as your grandma’s handwriting. You don’t want the other players smelling your fear!

Rules for Successful Gameplay

  • Rule 1: Aces are Low: In this topsy-turvy world of Chase the Ace, Aces are the bottom feeders. Don’t get it twisted!
  • Rule 2: Kings are Immunity Idols: Flash that King, and you’re safer than a germaphobe in a hazmat suit. No swapping for you!
  • Rule 3: Ties are Trouble: If multiple players tie for the lowest card, they all lose a token. It’s like a group hug, but with losing.

There you have it, folks – Chase the Ace in all its chaotic glory.

It’s faster than your kids asking “Are we there yet?” on a road trip, more furious than Mom when no one does the dishes, and guaranteed to test friendships and forge new rivalries.
