Oh wow. Thank you so much for taking the time to write. It really means a lot.

I truly love what you’re doing. Bringing families and residents together in a long-term care setting matters so, so much, and an indoor carnival is a beautiful idea. It can absolutely be fun, inclusive, and respectful of everyone’s abilities as long as you plan it right.

With wheelchairs, walkers, and dementia in mind, I’d focus on station-style games that are low pressure and visually inviting. Simple wins. Lots of smiles. No long waits. Balloon tosses (or balloon volleyball), bean bag tosses into big targets, ring toss over pool noodles, spin-the-wheel prizes, or a soft duck pond where everyone wins something small. Dice games could work well like Tenzi or Pig or Bettle. Have families and residents team up. Nothing timed. Nothing loud. Just cheerful and easy.

For residents who love a little competition, you can quietly offer a scorecard or a slightly harder version of the same games. Same setup, different level. That way no one feels left out or bored.

Sensory touches help too. Popcorn. Pre-made cotton candy bags. Bubbles. Soft carnival music. Even simple photo props so families can snap pictures together without a full photo booth.

A friend told me that they play Left, Center, Right (using the game dice) for Christmas with white elephant gifts. All gifts in the center to start. Youngest goes first. Center roll takes a gift. OPEN GIFT! Left and Right come into play as gifts are chosen. You can swap three times and then it's yours!

If you have 20people, then you’re probably better off writing the #s on torn pieces of paper and having everyone pick 1. You don’t # the socks. If everyone brings a pair, then it should be the correct #
